Fourteen people were injured in a grenade attack in a night club on Kenya’s capital Nairobi this morning.

Three of them had serious injuries while nine had soft tissue injuries, according to the country’s Deputy Police Spokesperson Charles Owino.

The lone attacker struck Mwaura’s Club in Nairobi’s Mfangano Street at 1.15 am (EAT) police said.

He is said to have hurled the grenade inside the club when the door was opened for him.

Police said they were not ruling out any theories, including business rivalry.

This comes a week after Kenyan jets pounded al-Shabaab positions in Somalia as its ground forces prepared for a fresh assault against the militant group that it has blamed for threatening its security and economic interest. The Somalia insurgents threatened reprisals. (Read: Al Shabaab vow to destroy Kenyan forces)
