An Angolan woman who belongs to the ruling MPLA party Women's League has killed her son in the capital Luanda for joining the opposition Unita party.
According to Radio Despertar, “the woman murdered her son on Tuesday for belonging to the Union for the Total Independence of Angola (Unita) party.” Members of Unita reported the incident to the police who are investigating.
Woman President
In a more uplifting context, another Angolan woman is training her eyes at the highest office in the land. Luisete Araújo is set to become the first woman in the country's post-war era to run for president.
Ms Araújo belongs to the Angolan Republican Party (PAR) and her chances of winning are considered slim.
But she is nonetheless looking forward with much enthusiasm to the general election which is scheduled to take place later in the year.
Announcing her candidacy, PAR leader Miguel Afonso said they settled on Ms Araújo due to her political maturity.
“She will cut a fine figure in the polls,” he said
He added that the party has higher chances of winning since another party which was a coalition of opposition outfits - civil opposition parties (POC) - has pulled out of the race.
Ms Araujo will face President José Eduardo dos Santo from the ruling MPLA ,Isaías Samakuva from UNITA, Eduardo Kanguana for PRS (Social Renovation Party) and Ngola Kabangu for FNLA (National Front for the Angolan Liberation).
