Ousted Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak has been sentenced to life in prison for protest murders during the uprising that overthrew him last year, AFP has reported.
The ex-president arrived on Saturday by helicopter at a court where the Chief Judge Ahmed Rifaat delivered the verdict. Wearing dark sunglasses, he was then transported to the courthouse by an ambulance then taken inside on a stretcher.
Also given a life term for the killings was Mubarak's former interior minister Habib al-Adly, while six former police commanders were acquitted.
Meanwhile, corruption charges against Mubarak's sons, Alaa and Gamal, were dropped.
