Suspected Cameroon separatists have abducted another government official in the restive English-speaking Northwest region, sources said.

Mr Nimbom Aaron Yong, a welfare officer of the Ministry of Social Affairs and regional delegate of the ministry for Northwest, was kidnapped at the weekend in the town of Batibo, a senior administrative officer confirmed.

It is the second abduction case in the locality within three weeks, coming after that of the Batibo divisional officer who was sized on February 11.

Momo senior divisional officer (SDO) Absalom Monono Woloa, said the regional delegate was abducted on Saturday and his car was found burnt on Sunday morning.

“An armed gang attacked the regional delegate, seized his service vehicle and set it on fire, took him on a bike to an unknown destination,” the senior administrative officer said.

“We do promise that just like in other abduction cases in other parts of the country like the Far North, we will use the same energy and intelligence reports to search for these abducted officials. We are calling on the population who are victims of these atrocious acts to collaborate with the forces of law and order,” Mr Woloa said further.

Just like that of the divisional officer on February 11, the leader of the Ambazonia Governing Council (AGC), Mr Lucas Cho Ayaba, said forces loyal to the separatist movement; the Ambazonia Defence Forces (ADF) carried out the abduction of the regional delegate.

“We got him,” Mr Ayaba wrote on social media following the abduction of Mr Yong.
