Ugandan opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Kizza Besigye was Monday arrested and driven to unknown location.

Dr Besigye was arrested at his home in Kasangati Wakiso District.

His return

The arrest came after other opposition leaders, including Kampala Mayor Erias Lukwago, paid Dr Besigye a visit at his home following his return from the US where he had been for about two weeks.

Shortly before Dr Besigye’s arrest, a scuffle ensued between him and police officers who had blocked the road that leads to his home.

Police van

Dr Besigye got out of his house, asked the police to remove their barricades but when they seemed adamant, the visibly angry FDC leader engaged them physically.

Dr Besigye was arrested and forced into a waiting police van and driven away.
